I found this story very interesting, especially due to the mention of John Delappe. Do you have any information about this man? I believe he is a relative of mine. The names John Delappe were bestowed upon the first born son in my paternal grandmother’s family line. We believe the link could be a woman named Betty Winter. Any information would be gratefully received. Thank you.

Joseph Delappe standing beside John among the group in 1954 photo titled, “The Sorting”, is my Father’s first cousin. Joseph. Along with his brothers, Hubert and Gerald, and sisters Mary and (don’t know all those) their Mother’s maiden name was Molloy, and she was (I believe the youngest) of six or seven sisters of my Paternal Grandfather, Michael Molloy, who was the only son of the family. I believe their father’s name was Patrick. I know their home was in Aughrusbeg where my elder sister and i had the thrill of visiting the place we’d dreamed of all our lives, and meeting some of our fascinating cousins. We visited Hugh Delappe and wife, Kitty and their children at Aughrus Beg. Their house was a few meters from the “cow shed” that had been the thatched cottage where the Molloy children had been raised, and I believe was restored years after our visit to its original historic form. We also met at that time more cousin living in that area of Connemara: Gerald, also Joseph and wife Kathleen, as well as John Cosgrove and wife Mary.
My Dad (with my Mother and younger sister, Kathy) had gone there just a few years before – at his first opportunity to visit Ireland, and the experience was deeply moving for him.
There is much more to the story of the tragic early death of his Father, who as a very young man had to leave his beloved Connemara to sail to NYC for work… Suffice to say in this limited space that due to other reasons beyond my Dad’s control, for many years he had no information or way to find his Dad’s home or contact family there, until an amazing stroke of Fate.
I came across this page while looking for news of Delappe and other cousins, in hopes of communicating with them. I would welcome a chance to correspond. with the next generation – Hugh, Jr. is the only name I have at the moment, but not his e-mail or postal address.

Omg goodness, My grandfather was John Delappe he was my grandfather, Hubert passed away last week aged 95, (Rip) my mother was Kathleen ( Catherine Kelly – nee Delappe ) would be happy to hear from anyone interested in the history
